AI in the Context of Education
The first session of the year was delivered by Asst. Prof. Mustafa Polat (Marmara University) who guided our instructors on how to apply new AI tools in the classroom to create interesting and entertaining materials to engage students.
Preparing Reading and Listening Tests
Next, Andrew Bosson (Sabancı University) joined us to instruct our colleagues on how to write test items for receptive skills. Andrew modelled tools that could assist with checking the levels of texts and generating questions via LLM systems. Our instructors were able to benefit from hands-on practice during this session and test out the tools in real time.
The Use of Digital Games in Teaching
For the third training, Asst. Prof. Mustafa Polat returned to explore the use of digital games in the classroom. During his session, he shared how gamification can increase motivation and demonstrated some activities that can be easily applied in the classroom.
AI for Receptive and Productive Skills
The fourth and fifth external sessions were provided by Esra Ezici (Oxford University Press) who delivered two sessions on AI applications, both for receptive and productive skills. Esra hoca showed our instructors ways to use tools to generate interest in class and create output, including songs, that can be used to liven up existing materials. Our instructors left this session with practical tools that they were able to immediately use in the classroom.
